Decorative painting with style guide

How to choose home decorative paintings: style guide and matching tips
I often see foreign home bloggers have a whole wall of decorative paintings at home, but when I do the picking myself I often feel clueless and worry that it won't match well. As a theorist, I've summarised some styles of decorative paintings in the hope that it will help you figure out your own preferences.
Art/oil painting (classical) style 🎨
Many collectors of vintage art will have some classic oil painting reproductions in their homes for decoration, with vintage colours and classical style. Black and white manuscripts, hand-painted portraits with distinctive features, etc. are also very artistic. Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse paintings are very often used in the combination of decorative paintings.
Artwork/modern style 🎨
Memphis, new material three-dimensional, Pop, Bauhaus, Mondrian, Artdeco and other decorative paintings with regular structure, bold colours and various materials can be applied according to the modern style. With the metal texture three-dimensional structure of the modern style home must not go wrong.
Folk style 🌍
Chinese batiks and prints, Japanese ukiyo-e, and bohemian weaving are easily recognisable as decorative paintings with strong ethnic characteristics. They are great for pairing in small quantities with other styles, as accents, and to enrich the overall décor and colour hierarchy.
Photos 📸
Photo decorative paintings are mainly divided into landscape photos and portrait photos. Generally, black and white photos are more decorative and are more suitable for displaying on one wall alone. The number of photos must be small in case of mixing and matching with other styles.
Other considerations 📏
Try to keep the size of the frames different, the layering will be richer. The combination form is usually a single large-sized decorative painting or multiple small and medium-sized decorative paintings. The choice of frame try to match the style of the content of the picture, oil painting picture with vintage frame, modern style with minimalist border. If there is a colour jump in the home, the content of the picture can choose the similar colour of the home (such as the sofa is yellow, then the decorative painting can choose beige + orange / light yellow). If the home are black, white and grey colourless, decorative paintings can be rich in colour, a variety of styles and colours can be mixed and matched. Simple decorative painting wall combination is slightly bland, you can add hanging tray, tapestry, hanging plants (such as hanging orchids, deer horn fern, etc.).

I hope these tips can help you create a beautiful and harmonious home decorative painting wall!
